9. NETWORKING
9.1 The Network programming areas include the following fields. each is described in
detail in the following pages.
AMIS (see below)
Timers and Limits (see page 6-415)
Validate Off-Node Mailboxes (see page 6-416)
Undeliverable Messages Destination Type (see page 6-417)
A. AMIS
NOTE: The Voice Processor AMIS Networking software license is required to use this pro-
gramming area. See page 6-97 for information.
9.2 AMIS (Audio Messaging Interchange Specification) is a vendor-independent protocol
that describes how to network voice mail systems. AMIS has a digital protocol and an analog
protocol. The Voice Processor supports AMIS-Analog which uses DTMF control signaling and
analog message transmission.
NOTE: AMIS networking is not supported in Enterprise Messaging.
9.3 Call Routing Announcement applications can be programmed to detect and process
incoming AMIS calls. For a complete explanation of AMIS networking, see page 4-12 in
VOICE PROCESSING FEATURES.
9.4 The following outline can be used as a guide for setting up AMIS networking.
1. Make sure the Voice Processor AMIS Networking software license is enabled.
2. There must be a Message Notification/Retrieval Application programmed with outgo-
ing access. It will be used for placing outgoing AMIS calls.
3. The Voice Processors IC or CO System Number field should be programmed. This is
the field the Voice Processor uses to identify itself when establishing an AMIS session.
It allows the remote AMIS system to return calls to the local Voice Processor.
4. At least one Voice Processor Network Node must be programmed for AMIS network-
ing.
5. There must be at least one network mailbox on the local Voice Processor for a mailbox
that is located on the network node programmed for AMIS networking. For example, if
Voice Processor Node 5 is programmed for AMIS networking, then at least one network
mailbox on the local Voice Processor must be created on Node 5.
6. If using a Call Routing Announcement application, the application must have the
Accept AMIS Calls flag enabled. If the application does not have this flag enabled, it
will not be able to recognize DTMF tone “C” which is transmitted by the originating
system to indicate the start of an AMIS call.
7. If using a Call Routing Announcement application, the application cannot have a greet-
ing programmed, and it must have at least a 15 second pause. The 15 second pause
allows the application to be used for both Inter-Tel nodes and non-Inter-Tel nodes as
well as allowing it to work for calls transmitted over both the private and the public net-
work.
