Original Equipment Chassis Installation
8. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT CHASSIS INSTALLATION
NOTE: The original equipment chassis is not supported in Europe.
8.1 The original equipment chassis, backplane, and power supply unit have been rede-
signed. Installation instructions for the original equipment start below. Installation instructions
for the new-style equipment start on page 3-84.
A. UNPACK THE EQUIPMENT
8.2 Unpack the equipment and inspect the equipment chassis and all accompanying parts
following these guidelines:
1. Check the parts against the packing slip and inspect them for damage. If any item is
missing or damaged, contact Customer Support.
2. Check all circuit card assemblies as follows:
NOTE: The cards contain static-sensitive components. Handle all cards by the edges
only; however, avoid touching the gold contacts on the side of the card that plugs into
the chassis. (For additional precautionary information, see the CAUTION on page 3-93.)
a.
Check each card to ensure there is no shipping foam or tape attached.
b. Inspect each card for shorted components.
c. Return all cards to their protective bags until they are ready to be installed in the
equipment chassis.
B. CHECK THE CHASSIS PRE-ASSEMBLY
8.3 The equipment chassis is shipped fully assembled. To ensure that none of the items
have been damaged or have become unattached during shipment, follow these steps.
1. Position the chassis near the MDF backboard.
NOTE: The chassis can be placed on a table or other secure horizontal surface, or it
can be mounted on the wall as outlined in section E. Special feet are provided in Kit
part number 828.1490. These feet must be used on any flat-surface installation.
2.
Loosen the four screws securing the panel on the front of the chassis and set the panel
aside.
3. Remove the four screws securing the panel on the top of the chassis and set the panel
aside.
4. Check to see that the backplane is securely installed in the rear of the chassis.
5. Check to see that the power supply unit is securely installed in the top of the chassis.
6. Ensure that all cables are securely attached to their appropriate connectors.
7. DO NOT plug in the system AC power cable until the power supply electrical test, as
outlined on page 3-83 has been performed.
8. If installing a dual-chassis system, connect the two basic chassis together as outlined in
section C.
9. Wall mount the chassis, if desired (see page 3-86).
10. Ground the system according to the instructions on page 3-81.
