Unified Messaging
INSTALLATION

• Ignore avdap.opt: Specifies whether or not Voice Processing should obtain additional
startup parameters from the avdap.opt file. There are other parameters (such as
print_asai_msgs) that cannot be specified through this utility. If you want to specify
those values, you must do it in advap.opt, and choose not to ignore avdap.opt. At
default, this option is not enabled.
NOTE: If there is a conflict between a value set in this utility and in avdap.opt (e.g.,
log files size), the value set in the configuration utility takes precedence and overwrites
the value set in advap.opt.
D. UNIFIED MESSAGING
14.42 Unified Messaging versions 2.2 (VPU) and 2.3 (EM) have reached their end of sale and
are no longer supported as of April 30, 2008.
14.43 Inter-Tel recommends that current UM v2.2 and v2.3 installations upgrade to UM Open
Standards Edition (OSE). See below for more information.
E. UNIFIED MESSAGING OPEN STANDARDS EDITION (OSE)
14.44 Axxess v8.23x or later supports Unified Messaging OSE, a client-free Unified Messag-
ing distribution for the Inter-Tel Enterprise Messaging voice messaging server. Unlike previous
Unified Messaging products from Inter-Tel, users do not have to install a special Unified Mes-
saging client application on their desktop computer to view, play, and manage voice mail mes-
sages. With Unified Messaging OSE, the e-mail client can be any Internet Message Access
Protocol (IMAP) v4 compliant client that is configured to connect to the IMAP server located
on Enterprise Messaging. To use the latest version of Unified Messaging OSE, v2.0, existing
Axxess systems must upgrade to v11.0 or later, and to Enterprise Messaging v1.2 or later.
14.45 For Unified Messaging OSE v2.0 programming and feature information, refer to the lat-
est version of the Unified Messaging Open Standards Edition Administrator’s Guide (docu-
ment part no. 835.3162). For end-user information and instructions for using features, refer to
the Unified Messaging Open Standards Edition User Guide (part number 835.3164).
15. VOICE PROCESSING UNIT POWER SUPPLY REPLACEMENT
15.1 The Voice Processing PC is shipped with the power supply unit already installed. If the
power supply fails, use the Voice Processing Power Supply Replacement Kit (828.1478). The
kit includes a power supply module (550.0120) with a fan (part number 817.3135). You need a
hex and/or #2 Phillips screwdriver (depending on the type of screws used on your Voice Pro-
cessing PC). Replace the unit as follows (see Figure 3-95 on page 3-219):
1. Unpack the new power supply unit. (There may be four hex/Phillips-head screws
included with the unit.)
2. Turn OFF the AC POWER switch on the front of the Voice Processing PC and wait at
least five minutes for the power supply voltage to dissipate.
3. Disconnect the AC power cable and any other cables necessary to allow the Voice Pro-
cessing PC to be moved. Note the placement of these cables for the purpose of reattach-
ment following the replacement of the power supply.
4. Place the Voice Processing PC upright on a table and remove the screws securing the
cover and side panel of the Voice Processing PC.
5. Slide the cover toward the rear of the Voice Processing PC until the cover is released
from the chassis. Lift the cover off and set it aside.
