PROGRAMMING OVERVIEW
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 This section of the manual explains how to program the system. The Axxess
®
system is
functional when defaulted and only requires programming to make changes to meet the cus-
tomers special needs.
NOTE: Programmers must be certified on the Axxess system to receive technical support.
A. PLAN THE PROGRAMMING SESSION
1.2 Determine the features that need to be programmed to meet the customers needs. Then
refer to the specific programs and program planning sheets. For example, if the customer wants
to use the hunt group feature, see the programming information on page 6-160 and the corre-
sponding program planning sheet. Program planning sheets are included on the system soft-
ware CD-ROM, Documentation folder. You can also find all documentation on the Inter-Tel
edGe Web site. For readers located in Europe, contact the Inter-Tel Europe office for technical
documentation.
B. INITIAL PROGRAMMING GUIDELINES
1.3 When you first program an Inter-Tel
®
system, follow these guidelines for the initial
programming. (Detailed descriptions for these steps can be found throughout this chapter.)
1. With your programming PC connected to the serial port of the phone system, start the
Session Manager.
2. Do the following:
a. Select System and then Software License. Then make sure the premium features
that the customer has purchased are enabled or available on the software license.
(See page 6-97.)
b. Select System and then Cabinets, and program the cards that are installed in the
system. (See page 6-107.) Delete any cards you will not be using.
c. Disable the Voice Processor port if you will not be needing it. (See page 6-107.)
3. Select Devices and assign your extension numbers, as determined by your numbering
plan. Also change any feature codes that conflict with extension numbers or that the
customer wants to change. (See page 6-156.)
4. Change the home area codes (not applicable to Europe). (See page 6-286.)
5. Program the Voice Processor:
a. Create a Message Notification/Retrieval application and a Voice Mail Application.
Make sure they have the correct extension numbers. (See page 6-369.)
b. Create a System Administrators mailbox for the station that will serve as the
Voice Mail administrator. You can come back later to program the rest of the mail-
boxes or you can do it now. (See page 6-377.)
c. Assign the newly created System Administrators mailbox as the System Adminis-
trator. (See page 6-345.)
