9. NEW-TYPE EQUIPMENT CHASSIS INSTALLATION
9.1 The original equipment chassis, backplane, and power supply unit have been rede-
signed. Installation instructions for the new-style equipment start below. Installation instruc-
tions for the original equipment start back on page 3-75.
A. UNPACK THE EQUIPMENT
9.2 Unpack the equipment and inspect the equipment chassis and all accompanying parts
following these guidelines:
1. Check the parts against the packing slip and inspect them for damage. If any item is
missing or damaged, contact Customer Support immediately.
2. Check all circuit card assemblies as follows:
NOTE: The cards contain static-sensitive components. Handle all cards by the edges
only; however, avoid touching the gold contacts on the side of the card that plugs into
the equipment chassis. (For additional precautionary information, see the CAUTION on
page 3-93.)
a. Check each card to ensure there is no shipping foam or tape attached.
b. Inspect each card for shorted components.
c. Return all cards to their protective bags until they are ready to be installed in the
equipment chassis.
B. CHECK THE CHASSIS PRE-ASSEMBLY
9.3 The equipment chassis is shipped fully assembled. To ensure none of the items have
been damaged or have become unattached during shipment, follow these steps.
1. Position the chassis near the MDF backboard.
NOTE: The chassis can be placed on a table or other secure horizontal surface, or it
can be mounted on the wall as outlined in section E.
2.
Loosen the four screws securing the panel on the front of the chassis and set the panel
aside.
3. Ensure that the backplane is securely installed in the rear of the chassis.
4. DO NOT plug in the system AC power cable until the power supply electrical test, as
outlined on page 3-83, has been performed.
5. If installing a dual-chassis system, connect the two basic chassis together as outlined in
section C.
6. To wall mount the chassis, if desired, see page 3-77.
7. Ground the system according to the instructions on page 3-90.
