Station Cabling
6. STATION CABLING
6.1 Floor plans should be developed to aid in proper station cabling in a star (home run)
configuration from the equipment chassis. The cables are run from the station locations to the
station blocks at the MDF. See page 2-7 for cabling requirements.
6.2 Both ends of each cable should be labeled with the station’s circuit number (hardware
address). The circuit number (XX.YY.ZZ) designates the station card’s position in the equip-
ment chassis (XX = 01-07, 09-15, 17-23, or 25-31), the circuit position on the card (YY = 01-
16), and whether or not the circuit is a multi-purpose circuit (ZZ = 01-03; see next paragraph).
For example, circuit number 04.06.01 identifies the sixth circuit on the card installed in slot
number four.
NOTE: All circuit numbers are preceded with a two-digit node number. For example,
02.02.16.01 is a port on node 2, card 2, circuit 16.
6.3 In some circumstances, a station circuit can have more than one purpose. For example,
two single-line devices can be installed on a single DKSC circuit. The first device is assigned
circuit number XX.YY.01, and the second device is assigned circuit number XX.YY.02. Simi-
larly, a phone’s PC Data Port Module and Modem Data Port Module can be assigned their own
circuit numbers. In this case, the phone is assigned circuit number XX.YY.01, the first data
port is assigned number XX.YY.02, and the second data port is assigned number XX.YY.03.
For more information, see page 6-118.
6.4 When the system is first powered up, the default configuration is used to assign exten-
sion numbers to the station circuits. For example, in dual-chassis systems, card slots 1-5 and 9-
13 are configured as DKSCs, while slots 6-7 and 14-15 are configured as LSCs with attached
Daughter cards (LSC-Ds). In tri-chassis and quad-chassis systems, card slots 17-23 and 25-31
are unequipped. Changes to the default configuration can be made through DB Programming.
See PROGRAMMING for more information.
6.5 The default system assigns extension number 1000 to station circuit 01.01.01, extension
number 1001 to station circuit 01.02.01, and so on to match the initial configuration. Circuit
01.01.01 is equipped as an administrator and as the primary attendant’s phone when the system
is in the default configuration. Through DB Programming, the circuits can be assigned 1-5
digit extension numbers.
NOTE: DSS/BLF Units do not require a DKSC circuit and equipment chassis cabling that is
separate from the associated phone's circuit and cabling. Instead, each unit is connected
directly to the phone (equipped with a PC Data Port Module) and is powered by a separate AC
transformer.
