C. DEVICE BASELINE EXTENSIONS
9.21 The Device Baseline Extensions feature is located under System\Numbering Plan. The
user can define the base extensions of all equippable devices in the system. This allows net-
worked systems to manage extension ranges with less effort from the user. When the system
equips one of the devices listed below, it checks the Base Extension Table for the starting
extension for that device. For example, the user equips a new phone and DB programming
pops up a message box, as shown below.
9.22 In this case, the base extension for a phone is 1000; however, the system already has
extensions 1000-1015 allocated so DB programming picks the first extension that is available
starting with the base extension.
NOTE: The number of digits in the base extension is maintained. For example, if the base
extension were 10000 instead, DB programming will pick the first free extension after 10000.
Note that wildcard extensions (e.g., 12XXX) are not valid.
ALSO: Although the “P” prefix is not displayed, any new extension generated for “P” type
extensions will be a “P” extension.
