11. ATM SWITCH INSTALLATION
11.1 The ATM system configuration builds upon the dual-chassis configuration of the cur-
rent phone systems. With the ATM Switch serving as the backbone, up to four, dual-chassis
systems can be interconnected to create a high-capacity system. Each system chassis (or set of
chassis) is then controlled by a centralized Call Processing (CP) Server, which also connects
directly to the ATM Switch (see Figure 2-2 on page 2-13 for a sample configuration).
NOTE: The ATM Switch supports single- or dual-chassis systems only. For documentation pur-
poses, the term chassis is used to indicate both types.
A. UNPACK THE SWITCH
11.2 When you receive the ATM Switch, it should already be configured and contain the
required cards. Before installation, unpack the Switch and make sure the applicable cards are
properly seated according to the specifications in the manual included with the switch.
B. DEFAULT THE ATM SWITCH
11.3 Although the ATM Switch comes pre-configured, you may need to default and then
program the Switch if directed to do so by Technical Support.
11.4 To default a Switch:
1. Connect a 9-pin female/female Null Modem cable to the ATM Switch and to an avail-
able serial port on your PC.
2. Open a terminal session on that serial port.
3. Press ENTER to get the login: prompt.
4. Type ami and press ENTER.
5. Enter the password or press ENTER when prompted for a password.
6. At the root menu, type system cdb init and press ENTER.
7. Answer y to the “Do you wish to continue?” question and press ENTER.
11.5 The Switch returns to the default state. You can then program it as required.
