External Paging Equipment Installation
INSTALLATION
3
19. EXTERNAL PAGING EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION
19.1 Optional external paging equipment can be connected to an available LGC or LSC cir-
cuit or to the speaker wires on a phone. In addition, the CPC or CPU card has its own dedi-
cated external paging port – one in single-/dual-chassis systems, two in tri-/quad-chassis
systems (see page 2-30 for more information). When connecting external paging equipment to
an LGC or LSC circuit, use a paging amplifier that provides talk battery. When connecting
external paging equipment to a phone, the CPC, or the CPU card, use a paging amplifier that
DOES NOT provide talk battery.
19.2 To install external paging equipment, follow these steps:
1. If installing the paging equipment on an LGC or LSC circuit: Cut a length of shielded
speaker cable to run from the paging amplifier to the MDF backboard. Then, at the
MDF, terminate one end of the cable onto tip and ring of an available LGC or LSC cir-
cuit.
If installing the paging equipment on a phone speaker: Cut a length of shielded speaker
cable to run from the paging amplifier to the phone. Then, at the phone, terminate one
end of the cable onto the two wires leading from the phone’s internal speaker.
If installing the paging equipment on the CPC or CPU paging port: Cut a length of
shielded speaker cable to run from the paging amplifier to the CPC or CPU card. Then
attach an RCA-type phono plug to one end of the cable and insert the RCA-type phono
plug into the external page jack on the CPC or CPU card.
2. Connect the other end of the cable to the amplifier high-impedance input according to
the manufacturers instructions.
3. Connect the paging speaker(s) to the amplifier using speaker cable.
4. Plug in the amplifiers AC power cord. DO NOT use the outlet for the equipment chas-
sis.
5. Set the amplifier volume control to the lowest setting and turn on the amplifier.
6. If installing the paging equipment on an LGC or LSC circuit:
a. Ensure that the LGC or LSC circuit is not toll restricted.
b. From a station location, access the LGC or LSC circuit and adjust the amplifier to
the desired level while placing the page.
If installing the paging equipment on a phone speaker or the CPC or CPU paging port:
a. From a station location, make a page by lifting the handset, pressing the PAGE
button (or dialing 7 – the default Page feature code), and dialing a zone code that
includes the external paging zone or dialing the extension number of the external
paging port – default is 91000 [99000 in Europe] for the CPC, CPU 128, CPU
256, CPU 512 Master, or CPU ATM and 91001 [99001] for the CPU 512 Slave.
b. Adjust the amplifier to the desired level while placing the page.
CAUTION
Using a paging amplifier with talk battery on a phone may damage the phone or the card.
