Introduction
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Inter-Tel
®
phone system, in addition to its sleek, modular appearance and easy
installation and programming, provides many user-friendly features. To describe the system
features, this chapter has been divided into the following sections:
• Access to the Features: Contains a list of the feature codes and their definitions.
• System Organization: Describes possible administrator assignments, attendant
arrangements, and hunt groups (including UCD and ACD hunt groups).
• Trunk Features: Explains the trunk functions and programmable features, including:
dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) or dial-pulse signaling; types of trunks (loop start,
ground start, T1, T1/PRI, T1/E&M, DID, E1/PRI, DDI, Caller ID [CLIP - Calling Line
Identity Presentation], DNIS, and ANI; trunk groups; outgoing access, allowed-answer,
and ring-in assignments; call routing tables; day and night modes of operation; auto-
matic route selection (ARS); trunk and toll restriction; area/office code number plans;
emergency calls; and direct inward system access (DISA).
NOTE: Ground start, T1/PRI, DID, DNIS, ANI, and area/office code number plans are
not supported in Europe.
• Station Instruments: Describes the station instruments of the phone system. Available
station instruments include digital, analog, and Executone phones, single-line sets, digi-
tal and analog Direct Station Selection/Busy Lamp Field (DSS/BLF) Units, and Mini-
DSS Units.
NOTE: Analog phone, Executone phones, and analog DSS/BLF Units are not sup-
ported in Europe.
• Intercom, Outside, and General Call Processing Features: Explain the use of the sta-
tion features that are available to all station users, including intercom call features, out-
side call features, and general call processing features.
• Attendant Features: Explains the special attendant-only features and the use of the
DSS/BLF Unit.
• Administrator Features: Explains the special administrator-only features.
• Record Keeping and Maintenance Features: Describes station message detail record-
ing (SMDR), which is a system error reporting feature providing self-diagnostic infor-
mation to make the system easier to service.
