MANUAL VERSION 11.0 May 2008
T1C, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI Cards on a Network
SPECIFICATIONS
2
T1C, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI Cards on a Network
4.193 Each network span requires two T1C, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI cards, one for each end of
the span. The cards require the most recent firmware (use upgrade kit part number 828.1459).
4.194 For each network span, order a clear channel, point-to-point T1/E1/PRI span from the
service provider (not PRI service, even though you are using T1C, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI
cards).
NOTE: The system requires T1 channel 24 in any network span.
ALSO: For fractional E1 (not all 32 channels in use) in any network span, the system requires
E1 channel 0 for synchronization and E1 channel 16 for signaling information.
4.195 When a T1/PRI, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI card is programmed for networking (Private
Network switch type), the system automatically creates a node trunk group. (All B-Channels
residing on the same T1/PRI card are in the same node trunk group.)
4.196 The system allows up to eight node trunk groups per node (one for each T1/PRI, E1/
PRI, or T1/E1/PRI card).
T1 or E1/PRI Network Clock Card (NCC)
4.197 If any T1 or E1/PRI cards are to be installed in a chassis using the CPU64 or CPU128
card, a single Network Clock Card must also be installed. Then, instead of using the clock cir-
cuitry on the CPU card, the NCC becomes the clock for the entire system. The NCC provides
the smooth, error-free clock transitions required for T1 or E1/PRI applications.
NOTE: Do not install an NCC in chassis equipped with the CPU020/PCM card; it could cause
T1 or E1 timing problems. If one is accidently installed, the programming PC displays a warning.
4.198 The NCC is installed in the expanded chassis connector slot (J10) on the far right side
of the equipment chassis backplane. When two basic chassis are attached together to form a
dual-chassis system, the NCC is installed only in the second (right-hand) chassis.
NOTE: Be sure the system power is turned OFF before inserting or removing the Network
Clock Card.
NOTICE
System versions 8.0 and later do not require a Network Clock Card (NCC) for 64 or 128 sys-
tems. If upgrading to 8.0, you must remove the NCC before installing the CPC. If the NCC is
not removed, the system continually resets.
