Warp system. The EVMC hardware has not changed; only
the operating system on the card is different. Many of the operations that you performed on the
older EVMCs are handled the same with the Linux version. For detailed information on the
Linux-based EVMC, see the Linux-Based EVMC Installation and Maintenance Instructions
(document part no. 835.2839).
NOTE: Although the hardware has a port labeled “Optional LAN” the EVMC currently does not
have LAN support.
4.238 There are, however, a few differences with the Linux-based EVMC, as described below.
• Because Linux manages disk space in a way different from OS/2, you can use more of
the drive to store your data and log files. You can store over 800 hours of voice mail
data and have room for backups.
Approximate disk space requirements for voice mail storage are as follows (note that
the requirements are the same for OS/2 or Linux):
— 1 second = 3 K
— 1 minute = 180 K
— 1 hour = 10.8 MB
— A default mailbox is 30 minutes maximum = 5.4 MB (180 K x 30 minutes)
— 64 mailboxes = 346 MB (5.4 MB per mailbox x 64 mailboxes)
— 200 mailboxes = 1.1 GB (5.4 MB per mailbox x 200 mailboxes)
• Because drivers are not available for Linux, you cannot use a Zip drive for back ups.
However, you can avoid using multiple floppy disks by using some of the additional
space on the drive.
• In the event that the AVDAP services crashes, Linux automatically generates files with
the extension “.bt.” These files can be used by Inter-Tel Technical Support to trouble-
shoot the cause(s) of the crash. Information about the crash is contained in files named
alarms.bt and exception.bt.
