• Flow control settings
— No flow control

— Bit rate (e.g., 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 bps, etc.)
— Number of data bits (e.g., 7 or 8)

— Number of stop bits (e.g., 1 or 2)
1.2 Successfully connecting two devices using RS232 requires an understanding of all of
the above and then requires you to program the proper settings, choose the correct cables and
adapters, and make sure that the pins are wired up correctly.
2. INTER-TEL RS232 PRODUCTS
2.1 To make RS232 connection easier, Inter-Tel provides the following products and guide-
lines to help you with all of your RS232 connections to system serial ports.
• For modem connections, purchase the Axxess
®
Modem Kit (part number 550.3026).
This kit provides you with the correct cable, adapter, a properly pre-configured and
tested modem, and a set of installation instructions.
• For most other system-related RS232 serial connections, purchase the Inter-Tel Univer-
sal RS232 kit, part number 828.1282. This kit contains a variety of cables and adapters
as well as documentation that shows you how to quickly and efficiently make virtually
any type of RS232 connection you are likely to encounter, including:
— System to PC COM port
— PC COM port to PC COM port
— System to serial port printer
• For PCDPM connections, refer to the Digital Phone PCDPM Installation Instructions,
part number 835.1823 (-5 or later), or the Model 8520 or 8560 PCDPM Installation
Instructions, part number 835.2563 (-1 or later).
• For OAI connections, refer to the system Card-To-PC System OAI Cable Kit Instruc-
tions, part number 835.2007 (-2 or later)
