Windows Event Log File Freezes

29. WINDOWS EVENT LOG FILE FREEZES
29.1 Windows provides an Event Log API. This API provides access to the raw data used by
the Event Viewer to format the information. Using this API, the Applications and System
Event Log raw data (with basic formatting) are saved whenever the system history is frozen.
Occasionally, Inter-Tel Engineering will need to use these files for troubleshooting. The files
are named freeze_xx_event_log.txt, where xx is 01-99 and event is either the
“Applications” or “System” event file name.
29.2 The format for the information is as follows:

Source: ICP
Type: INFORMATION
Time: Thu Sep 28 02:00:02 2000
ID: 100
File: C:\WINNT\System32\IcpMsg.dll
Message: The Inter-Tel Call Processing service has started.
29.3 Where:
Record Number: Specifies a sequential number representing this event’s place in the
overall log.
Source: Identifies the name of the service or application that has registered itself with
Windows as an event source.
Type: Indicates if the event is informational, an error, or a warning.
Time: Specifies the time that this event was logged.
ID: Indicates the value, which is specific to the source, that is used to look up internal
string tables.
File: Identifies the name of the file that contains the internal string tables.
Message: Specifies the actual formatted log string.
