Grounding Requirements
5.11 The equipment chassis must be plugged into a properly grounded AC power source.
(See SPECIFICATIONS for additional AC power requirements.) Some good ground points
include: the building’s frame, a ground rod (driven a minimum of 8 ft/2.4 m), and a copper (not
PVC) cold water pipe.
5.12 The grounding wire should be 10AWG (10 gauge thickness or larger -- smaller number
gauge = larger thickness) or larger, and should not exceed 25 feet (7.5 meters) in length, to
help provide RFI/EMI protection, or should not exceed 10 feet (3 meters) in length, to help
provide both RFI/EMI and lightning protection.
5.13 To ground the system (see Figure D-6 below):
1. Ensure that the system’s AC power source is properly grounded. DO NOT defeat (or
leave floating) the ground wire in the AC power cord.
2. Install an AC surge/spike protector with a built-in ground lug and connect it to:
a. The ground lug (indicated by the symbol ) on the left, inside wall of the equip-
ment chassis.
