DSS/BLF Unit Installation
B. DSS/BLF UNIT INSTALLATION
NOTE: For information about installing the 48-key DSS/BLF Console for use with an Execu-
tone
®
IDS phone, refer to a version 7.0 or earlier Eclipse Installation and Maintenance Manual.
ALSO: Analog DSS/BLF Units cannot be installed on the European system.
13.30 Up to 20 digital Digital Direct Station Selection/Busy Lamp Field (DSS/BLF) Units can
be installed on the system. A single phone can be equipped with up to four units.
13.31 There are three types of digital DSS/BLF Units available:
60-Key, 6-Row Model: Used with Executive Display and Standard Display Phones.
60-Key, 12-Row Model: Used with Professional Display and Associate Display
Phones.
50-Key Model: Used with Model 8520 and 8560 Phones.
13.32 Each unit provides one-button access to 50 or 60 extension numbers and/or other fea-
tures/resources, while four units provide access to 200 or 240 extension numbers and/or other
features/resources. Although the 60-key, 6-row model is designed for Executive Display or
Standard Display Phones and the 50-key model is designed for Model 8520 or Model 8560
Phones, you can use either unit on these phones.
13.33 In addition, Model 8500, 8520, and 8560 Phones support a 16-key Mini-DSS.
13.34 Digital DSS/BLF Units are physically attached to the RS232 ports on phones equipped
with PC Data Port Modules (PCDPMs). The units are powered by their own AC transformer
and do not require a DKSC/DKSC-16 circuit that is separate from the phone’s circuit. If
desired, all 20 units can be connected to phones installed on the same Digital Keyset Card.
13.35 Unpack and inspect the DSS/BLF Units before installing them.
6-Row and 50-Key Models
13.36 Install the 6-Row or 50-Key DSS/BLF Unit as outlined below. For diagrams of the
installation, see Figure 3-87 on page 3-200 and Figure 3-92 on page 3-207.
1. Remove the baseplate on the back of the DSS/BLF Unit.
2. On the connector board located in the baseplate, plug the free end of the PCDPM-to-
DSS interface cable into the main RS232 connector (J1). (The other end of the cable
was previously attached to the PC Data Port Module on the corresponding phone.)
3. Plug the AC transformer cable into the power connector (J4) on the baseplate connector
board. (The transformer is later plugged into an AC power source.)
NOTE: DSS/BLF Units always require their own separate AC transformers. For a dia-
gram of AC transformer requirements, see Figure 2-7 on page 2-78.
4.
To attach a second DSS/BLF Unit to the first unit:
a. Plug one end of a DSS-to-DSS interface cable into the secondary RS232 connec-
tor (J2) on the baseplate connector board in the first unit.
b. Remove the baseplate on the back of the second DSS/BLF Unit.
