1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Axxess Converged Communications Platform Installation and Maintenance Man-
ual provides the information needed to plan, install, program, implement, maintain an Inter-
Tel
®
Axxess
®
Converged Communications Platform.
2. AXXESS CONVERGED COMMUNICATIONS PLATFORM
2.1 The Inter-Tel Axxess Converged Communications Platform is a state-of-the-art, digital,
voice/data, hybrid communications system. As a hybrid system, it incorporates many of the
user-friendly features of key systems with many of the expanded features and flexibility of pri-
vate branch exchange (PBX) systems.
2.2 The system is designed to meet the needs of growing businesses. In fact, the system’s
unique digital signal processor (DSP) structure allows it to be easily adapted and expanded as
business communication needs change, especially with the Caller ID, Automatic Number Iden-
tification (ANI), Dialed Number Identification Service (DNIS), and Integrated Services Digital
Network (ISDN) features. The modular design makes the system easy to install and service.
And, the programmable features provide an abundance of user-friendly applications to meet
each customer’s needs. Highlights of the system’s design include:
• Advanced microprocessor technology
• Modular, easily replaceable hardware with add-on capabilities for optional features
• Flexible programming to customize many system and station features

3. INTENDED AUDIENCE
3.1 This manual has been developed for technician-users who:
• Possess the knowledge and skill required to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot a pro-
grammable circuit-switched telephone system.
• Use standardized telecommunication practices, procedures, and troubleshooting meth-
ods when performing their work.
• Possess the ability to effectively apply the principles of:
— Internet Protocol (IP) telephony—Voice over IP (VoIP), including Quality of Ser-
vice (QoS)
— Data networking
— Technology convergence
