B. SERVER INSTALLATION
16.3 On the PC that serves as a voice mail server, create or select a conventional user
account the voice mail client may use for the dial-in. You must have the privilege to modify
this account to complete this installation. This requirement may prevent the use of an account
from elsewhere in the domain. In the example below, account “voice_mail_networking” is
used.
1. Install the Remote Access Server (RAS): Open Network in the Control Panel, then
select
Services. Then select Add.
2. Select Remote Access Service and select OK. You are asked to verify the location of
the installation files, which is in the i386 directory on the Windows-based installation
CD.
3. Next, you are asked if you want to install a modem. If you do, you’ll need to specify the
make and model of the modem as well as the port to which it is connected. (This infor-
mation can also be set under the Modems icon in the Control Panel.) Configure the
modem to receive calls (either exclusively or also permit dial out), then select
OK.
4. Select Network in the Remote Access Setup dialog.
5. In the Network Configuration dialog, specify the level of encryption to use for account
information exchange. Select either
Require encrypted authentication or Require
Microsoft encrypted authentication
. Make sure that TCP/IP is selected and select OK
to exit.
6. Select Configure for TCP/IP.
a. Change the network access scope for remote TCP/IP clients to This computer
only
.
b. Select the option to use a static address pool, and enter the range of IP addresses.
c. Select OK for this dialog, then OK for the Network Configuration dialog.
7. If NetBEUI or IPX is selected in the Network Configuration dialog, dialog boxes with
configuration options appear. Select
OK.
8. If you are asked if you want to enable NetBIOS Broadcast Propagation, select the
default answer
No.
9. Select Continue in the Remote Access Setup dialog.
10. When you return to the Network dialog (the one with the Services tab), select Close
and the configuration is reviewed and saved.
11. You are asked if you want to restart the computer. Select Yes.
12. Start Remote Access Admin (under Start - Programs - Administrative Tools).
13. Select Permissions under the Users menu.
14. Grant dial-in permission to the account that the client is to use for the dial-in, then exit
the Admin program.
15. Open Services in the Control Panel, then select Remote Access Server.
16. Select Startup and make the Remote Access Server service’s startup automatic.
17. Select OK, then select Close in the Services dialog.
18. Restart the computer. This should also start the Remote Access Server.
19. Open Network in the Control Panel, then select Services.
20. Select Remote Access Service and Properties.
