Assemble the Necessary Tools and Supplies
• With a U.S. system, 50-pin female amphenol-type connectors (with recommended non-
conducting, plastic covers) and a connecting machine. With a European system, 50-pin
female amphenol-type connectors (with recommended non-conducting, plastic covers)
pre-wired to Krone blocks or without Krone blocks for Patch Panel cabling
• Ferrite beads for all station, trunk, and RS232 cables, if necessary. (See SPECIFICA-
TIONS, page 2-7.)
• Gas discharge tubes with silicon avalanche suppressors for lightning protection on the
CO [local exchange], DID (U.S. only), and OPX trunks.
• Grounding terminal and 10AWG (10 gauge thickness or larger -- smaller number gauge
= larger thickness) wire for grounding the chassis, Single-Line Adapters, etc.
• Standard telephone hand tools and the mounting hardware for the MDF backboard,
trunk and station blocks, modular jack (line jack unit) assemblies, etc.
• For on-site or stand-alone/remote system programming, an IBM-compatible personal
computer (see page 2-99 for specifications).
5.2 If installing any T1 or E1 and/or Primary Rate Interface (PRI) trunks: Depending
on the type of T1/PRI or E1/PRI termination used by the telephone company [network pro-
vider] and how close it is to the MDF, the following tools and supplies are also needed.
NOTE: With a U.S. system, the T1 or PRI trunk is typically connected to the standard RJ48C
modular jack provided on the T1 or T1/E1/PRI card. However, in certain situations, it may be
more convenient to use the card's DB15 connector instead. See page 3-37 for more informa-
tion. With a European system, the E1 or PRI trunk is typically connected to the standard RJ45
line jack unit provided on the E1 or T1/E1/PRI Card.
5.3 For T1/PRI trunks terminated on RJ48C jacks near the MDF or for E1/PRI
trunks terminated on RJ45 jacks near the MDF:
• Four-pair, non-reversing, mod-to-mod line cords (one for each T1/PRI trunk installed)
• For T1/PRI or E1/PRI trunks terminated on RJ48C [RJ45] jacks away from the MDF
(see Figure 3-13 on page 3-32)
• Eight-conductor modular jack (line jack unit) assemblies – two for each T1/PRI or E1/
PRI trunk installed
• Four-pair, non-reversing, mod-to-mod line cords (two for each T1/PRI or E1/PRI trunk
installed)
• T1 or E1 cable – enough to extend from each telco RJ48C [RJ45] jack to the MDF (see
page 2-54 for cable specifications)
5.4 For T1/PRI or E1/PRI trunks terminated on an RJ-type block:
• Eight-conductor modular jack (line jack unit) assemblies – one for each T1/PRI or E1/
PRI trunk installed. (See Figure 3-15 on page 3-34)
• Four-pair, non-reversing, mod-to-mod line cords (one for each T1/PRI trunk installed)
• T1 or E1 cable – enough to extend from each telco [network provider] termination to
the MDF (see page 2-54 for cable specifications)
