IPRC Installation
3. Upgrade the CPU card(s) using the proper upgrade kit. Refer to the following table for
the appropriate kit part number.
NOTE: You do not need to upgrade a CPC.
4. If you plan to use one or more VoIP resources for private networking, verify that the
desired number of DSPs are installed on the IPRC. The IPRC supports up to eight DSPs
capable of encoding and decoding data for transmission on IP networks. Each DSP is
capable of providing up to two, 2-way audio connections. Audio connections include:
• Media Types: The audio connections the DSPs provide are capable of encoding
and decoding voice and DTMF digits.
• Vocoders: The audio connections the DSPs provide are capable of using the
G.711, G.729, and G.729B vocoders for encoding and decoding data.
5. If you plan to use one or more VoIP resources for IP devices, verify that the IPRC does
not reside behind a firewall or NAT.
6. In DB Programming (System\Cabinets), select Internet Protocol Resource Card as the
card type for the slot (see page 6-145). When prompted for a confirmation, click
Yes.
Then select the IP extension used to access the IP port on the card and click
OK. This
extension must be unique.
NOTE: Inter-Tel strongly advises installers to create a universal numbering plan that
includes IP connections for forward compatibility. One such plan is to use the conven-
tion of “PSnnc” where P is the pause digit, S is the number 6 or 7, nn is the node num-
ber, and c is a number between 0-9 identifying the specific IPRC to which the IP
connection corresponds.

Insert the IPRC in its appropriate slot in the equipment chassis. (The slot must be pro-
grammed as IPRC as discussed in the previous step.) The component sides of the card
must face right. Verify that all components of the card are seated properly and that no
pins are bent.
NOTE: The IPRC might halt (red “HALT” LED remains lit) on hot-card insertion. If so,
simply wait about 4-5 seconds for the CPU card or CPC to bring the card out of the
halted state, rather than attempt to reseat the IPRC.

Connect one end of the Ethernet/10Base-T/LAN cable to the RJ-45 connector labeled
“LAN” on the IPRC. Connect the other end of the cable to the RJ-45 connector on the
LAN or network hub.
NOTE: Do not connect to the LAN until the IP card is programmed. Some hubs have
a straight-through/crossover switch. The switch must be selected for straight-through
operation.
