Single-Line Set and Playback Device Installation
C. SINGLE-LINE SET AND PLAYBACK DEVICE INSTALLATION
Single-Line Sets
13.42 Single-line sets are connected to Single-Line Cards (SLCs), or they can be connected to
Single-Line Adapters (SLAs), which are in turn connected to DKSC/DKSC-16 circuits. The
single-line sets (including OPXs) must be equipped with AC ringers.
NOTE: DC-ringing single-line devices may not be connected to SLCs or SLAs.
13.43 SLAs do not support visual message waiting applications. If single-line sets with mes-
sage waiting lamps are installed on SLAs, the lamps do not function. However, single-line sets
connected to SLAs can be configured in DB Programming to receive audible message waiting
indication tones.
13.44 Each SLC can be equipped with an optional Lamp Option Card (LOC) to provide visual
message waiting capabilities for single-line sets equipped with message lamps. Single-line sets
connected to SLCs are then configured in DB Programming to receive visual and/or audible
message waiting indication tones.
Playback Devices
NOTE: For automated attendant features and for optimal playback device performance and
functionality, use the Inter-Tel Voice Processing PC instead of SLC or SLA circuits as outlined
below.
13.45 Playback devices can be used in place of single-line sets on SLC or SLA circuits. These
devices answer an incoming call, play a recorded message, and automatically disconnect from
the call. They are installed like single-line sets, using the same cabling and modular jack (line
jack unit) assemblies. A playback device uses the extension number that is associated with its
station circuit.
Single-Line Set and Playback Device Installation
13.46 To install a single-line set or a playback device:
1. For SLAs only:
a. Plug the AC transformer cable into the power connector on the corresponding Sin-
gle-Line Adapter (SLA).
NOTE: SLAs always require their own separate AC transformers. For a diagram of
AC transformer requirements, see Figure 2-7 on page 2-78.
b.
Plug the main AC transformer unit into an available AC power source. DO NOT
use the outlet for the equipment chassis.
2. Before connecting a single-line set or playback device to the system, measure the volt-
age on the RED terminal of the modular jack (line jack unit) assembly with respect to
the GREEN terminal. (The common probe of the voltmeter is placed on the GREEN
terminal.) It must measure -48VDC (±2VDC). If +48 is measured, check the cabling for
a reversed pair.
