Uploading CPU Cards
C. UPLOADING CPU CARDS
NOTE: As long as both the first (master) and third (slave) chassis in tri-/quad-chassis installa-
tions are properly connected and on line, the system software only needs to be uploaded to the
master CPU020-Q/PCM-F card. However, if for some reason the third (slave) chassis is not
connected or is off line, the system software must also be uploaded to the slave CPU020-X/
PCM-F card.
1. Ensure that the programming PC is equipped with the DB Programming software. (See
page 6-17 in PROGRAMMING for details.)
2. If connected to a CP Server, stop the Call Processing Service (see page C-9 for details).
You cannot upload software if the CP Server is attempting to communicate with any of
the cards.
3. Attach an RS232 cable from an available COM port on the PC to the top RS232 port
(labeled CPU SERIAL PORT 1) on the CPU card. (See Figure 3-50 on page 3-107 for a
drawing showing the serial ports.)
4. Select Start - Inter-Tel DB Programming - Upload Utility. (The main upload screen
appears.)
5. Click New or select New from the File menu to create an entry.
6. Enter a description, up to 40 characters, in the Settings For field that allows you to
identify the connection type. For example, if creating a setting for the CPU128 on node
2, enter Node 2 CPU128.
7. Select CPU/CPC - Call Processing Cards as the Board type.
8. Select the appropriate “Port” and the desired “Speed” (bit per second rate). Estimated
upload times are listed in the following table.
NOTE: Be sure to select a bit rate that is compatible with the PC's capabilities. For
example, only PCs equipped with high-speed serial communications chips (e.g., 16550
UART) can use the 38400 and 57600 bit rates.
9. Enter the appropriate upload source file name in the File box or use the Browse button
to locate the file (the file ends with .bin). The file name usually depicts the country,
version number, and capacity of the system. For example,
us_52F9_prod_cpu_512.bin indicates the file required for a CPU512 card that is
running the production version of 5.2F9 for the U.S. Make sure the complete file name
appears in the box.
10. If the system has just been powered up, wait at least three minutes to allow the system
to stabilize and finish printing power-up messages before performing the next step.
11. Click Start (or select Start from the File menu).
