MANUAL VERSION 11.0 May 2008
Optional Personal Computer Data Port Modules (PCDPMs)
INSTALLATION
3
13.19 PCDPMs can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
Off-hook voice announce (OHVA) receive capability
Optional Modem Data Port Module (MDPM) connection
Optional DSS/BLF Unit connection
CTI applications requiring a desktop OAI connection
Low-speed (4800 bps or slower) RS232 connection to a PC for system serial port appli-
cations, such as SMDR and message print.
NOTE: For all applications requiring RS232 connections, the PCDPM supports only
hardware flow control; it does not support software flow control.
13.20 The following three areas must be addressed to properly install and configure the
PCDPM:
Hardware Installation (see below)
System DB Programming (see page 3-196)
RS232 Setup and Configuration (see page 2-76)
13.21 Install the PC Data Port Module for an Executive Display or Standard Display Phone as
outlined below. For diagrams of the installation, see Figure 3-86 on page 3-199 and Figure 3-
87 on page 3-200.
1. Unplug the phone line cord and the handset from the modular jack (line jack unit) on
the back of the phone.
2. Remove the phone baseplate.
3. On the back of the phone, use a pair of cutting pliers to remove the plastic knockout
covering the PC Data Port Module connector (J3) on the phone control board (see
page 3-199).
NOTE: Be careful not to let the plastic knockout fall inside the phone. If the phone is
wall mounted, use the knockout in the bottom half of the phone instead (see Figure 3-
86).
Some of the newer-style digital phones equipped with both red and green LEDs do not
have a plastic knockout in the upper portion of the back of the phone to allow easy con-
nection to the phone control board. Instead, you must open the back of the phone
(secured by four screws) and route the cable through the plastic knockout in the lower
portion of the back housing, just as you would if you were wall-mounting the phone.
4. Align the PC Data Port Module over the four posts protruding from the inside of the
baseplate and insert the screws (do not over tighten).
