Optional Personal Computer Data Port Modules (PCDPMs)
13.17 For off-hook voice announce receive capability, and to allow an optional DSS/BLF Unit
and/or an optional Modem Data Port Module to be installed, any Standard Display, Associate
Display, Executive Display, Professional Display, Model 8520, or Model 8560 Phone may be
equipped with an optional PC Data Port Module. For the Executive Display and Standard Dis-
play Phones, PCDPM part no. 550.3018 [PB2585 in Europe] or 550.3014 [PB2548-A] is
required. For the Professional Display and Associate Display Phones, PCDPM part no.
550.3018 is required. For the Model 8520 and 8560 Phones, the PCDPM required is part no.
550.8400.
13.18 The original model PCDPM – part no. 550.3014 [PB2548-A in Europe] for the Execu-
tive Display and Standard Display Phones has been replaced with a new model – part no.
550.3018 [PB2585]. The new PCDPM (part no. 550.3018) and the Model 8520/8560 PCDPM
(part no. 550.8400) do not require an external AC transformer (see Figure 2-7 on page 2-78 for
a diagram). Refer to the revised installation instructions included with the new unit. If a DSS/
BLF Unit is not installed on the module’s RS232 port, the port can be used to connect an
SMDR/error message output device or a personal computer. See page 3-191 for instructions on
installing the optional PC Data Port Module.
NOTE: RS232 has undergone several revisions over the last 30 years. The most current ver-
sion of RS232 is EIA/TIA-232-E (July 1991), which includes the alternate use of RTS and CTS
as character-by-character hardware flow control signals. The Inter-Tel system serial ports con-
form to EIA/TIA-232-E. Older versions of RS232, such as EIA-232-D (1987) and RS232-C
(1969) are a subset of EIA/TIA-232-E. Hence, serial ports which conform to EIA/TIA-232-E are
compatible with RS232-C serial ports. However, if the RS232-C serial port does not support
RTS/CTS flow control, then the connection cannot use RTS/CTS hardware flow control.
