MANUAL VERSION 11.0May 2008
Caller ID [CLIP], DNIS, and ANI
H. CALLER ID [CLIP], DNIS, AND ANI
NOTE: These features require the Advanced CO Interfaces software license.
10.65 The Inter-Tel system supports Caller ID [CLIP], ANI, and DNIS. These features pro-
vide information about the source of the call.
NOTE: ANI is not supported in Europe.
Caller ID [CLIP]: Caller ID [CLIP] information gives the callers telephone number
and/or name.
ANI: Automatic Numbering Identification (ANI) information identifies the callers
telephone number. The system receives a specified number of digits.
*ANI*: This is a form of ANI that does not have a specified number of digits. The sys-
tem receives a star (*) before the ANI digits to signal the beginning of the callers tele-
phone number. Then there is another star after the digits to signal the end of the ANI
information.
DNIS: Dialed Number Identification Service (DNIS) identifies the number that was
dialed to reach your location. The system receives a base number and a specified num-
ber of digits that identify the dialed number.
*DNIS*: This is a form of DNIS that does not have a specified number of digits. The
system receives a star (*) before the DNIS digits to signal the beginning of the dialed
number. Then there is another star after the digits to signal the end of the DNIS infor-
mation.
*ANI*DNIS*: This is a two-stage address service that provides both the callers tele-
phone number and the dialed number. It combines the *ANI* and the *DNIS* features
described above.
10.66 The network retains trunk and outside party information and passes that information
along when a call is routed from node to node.
10.67 Using these features and the call routing tables, each incoming call can be identified
and sent to selected destinations. For example, calls identified with Caller ID [CLIP] or ANI
from specific regions of the country can be sent to the appropriate sales representative or calls
from specific locations can be sent to selected individuals.
10.68 With a U.S. system, using DNIS information responses to advertisements using one 800
number can be sent to one hunt group and calls from other 800 numbers can be sent to other
hunt groups. Or, they can all be sent to the same destination with different identifying names
for the phone displays (such as Magazine Ad, TV Ad, etc.).
10.69 Call information services, Caller ID [CLIP], ANI, and DNIS, must be enabled for the
individual trunks (see “service type” programming on page 6-253). Loop start trunks on LSCs
and LGCs can use Caller ID [CLIP]. E&M and DID trunks can use ANI and DNIS. Caller
information is not available on ground start trunks.
