The instrument enables the required resources when the power measurement is star-
ted.
16.3 Input
The "Input" measurements are for performing input line analysis. They are used to
measure the characteristics of the input power and the effects the power supply
exudes to the input line.
16.3.1 Power quality
In an electric circuit power is a measure for the rate of flow of energy at a certain point
of the circuit. The real power of a circuit, or the energy that can be used for work, is the
portion of energy that is transferred in one direction over a complete cycle of the AC
waveform. In AC circuits, however, inductive and capacitive elements can store energy
temporarily. This portion of the power flow known as reactive power is then returned to
the source without doing any work.
The " Power Quality" analysis measurements include the real power, the reactive
power, the apparent power and the power factor. The crest factors and the phase angle
between the current and voltage are also measured. These properties describe the
power transfer in the system and allow you to characterize the power quality of the sys-
tem.
Required probes:
Differential voltage probe
Current probe
16.3.1.1 Power quality results
The results of " Power Quality" measurements are provided in two ways:
The diagram shows the graphical presentation of:
the voltage waveform
the current waveform
the power waveform that is the product of the current and voltage waveforms
The result box displays the numeric measurement results.
