Parameter
value: Number of consecutive Hello packets that haven't been received from the IS-IS
neighbor for it to be considered dead. It ranges from 3 to 1000.
level-1: Level-1 IS-IS neighbor.
level-2: Level-2 IS-IS neighbor.
If you do not specify Level-1 or Level-2, the command applies to both Level-1 and
Level-2 IS-IS neighbors.
Description
Use the isis timer holding-multiplier command to set the number of consecutive
Hello packets that haven’t been received from the IS-IS neighbor for it to be considered
dead.
Use the undo isis timer holding-multiplier command to restore the default setting.
By default, an IS-IS neighbor is considered dead if three consecutive Hello packets
haven’t been received from it.
Given a broadcast network, you may configure this command specific to Level-1 or
Level-2 neighbors by specifying the keyword level-1 or level-2.
Given a PPP link, you do not need to specify Level-1 or Level-2, because only one kind
of Hello packet is available.
This command virtually specifies a hold-down time. If the local router does not receive
any Hello packet from the peer within this time, the peer is considered dead.
The hold-down time is configured on a per-interface basis. Within one area, routers
may have different holddown time settings.
To tune the hold-down time on a router, change the Hello timer setting of IS-IS or
change the number of consecutive Hello packets that haven’t been received from an
IS-IS neighbor for it to be considered dead.

Example
# On Vlan-interface 10, configure that the IS-IS neighbor is considered dead if five
consecutive Hello packets haven’t been received from it.
