24 VRRP
VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) is an election protocol that dynamically assigns
responsibility for one or more virtual router(s) to the VRRP routers(s) on a LAN, allowing several
routers on a multi-access link to utilize the same virtual IP address. A VRRP router is configured
to run the VRRP protocol in conjunction with one or more other routers attached to a LAN. In a
VRRP setup, one router is elected as the master router with the other routers acting as backups
in case of the failure of the master router. VRRP is designed to eliminate the single point of failure
inherent in the static default routed environment
The list of CLI commands for the configuration of VRRP is as follows:
router vrrp
interface
vrrp - ip address
vrrp - priority
vrrp - preempt
vrrp - text-authentication
vrrp - interval
show vrrp
show vrrp interface
debug vrrp
