traceroute
View a packet’s path to a specific device.
C-Series, E-Series, S-Series, Z-Series
Syntax
traceroute {host | vrf instance | ip-address | ipv6-address}
Parameters
host
Enter the name of device.
vrf instance
(Optional) E-Series Only: Enter the keyword vrf followed by the VRF
Instance name.
ip-address
Enter the IP address of the device in dotted decimal format.
ipv6-address
Enter the IPv6 address, in the x:x:x:x::x format, to which you are
testing connectivity.
NOTE: The :: notation specifies successive hexadecimal fields of
zeros.

Usage
Information
When you enter the traceroute command without specifying an IP address (Extended
Traceroute), you are prompted for a target and source IP address, timeout (in seconds) (default
is
5), a probe count (default is 3), minimum TTL (default is 1), maximum TTL (default is 30), and
port number (default is 33434). To keep the default setting for those parameters, press the
ENTER key.
