About CEP Phone Detection
ConvergenceisamethodtodetectaremoteIPtelephonyorvideodeviceandapplyapolicytothe
connectionportbasedonthetypeofCEPdevicefound.Whenaconvergenceendpoint(CEP)is
found,theglobalpolicyforCEPdetectionisappliedtotheuseronthatport.
Thefollowingphone
detectiontypesareavailableonEnterasysMatrixDFEdevices:
•CiscoPhoneDetectionUsestheCiscoDiscoveryProtocol(CiscoDP)todetectIPphones.
WhenusingCiscophonedetection,CiscoDPmustbeenabledandconfiguredproperlyas
describedinCiscoDiscoveryProtocolonpage 38.
•SiemensorHipath
PhoneDetectionUseseitheranIPaddressoraUDP/TCPportnumber
fordetection.BydefaultUDPport4060willbeusedandthereisnoIPaddressconfigured.
ThecommandsinthissectioncanbeusedtoconfigureSiemensdetectionusingnew
parameters.
•H.323PhoneDetection
UseseitheraUDP/TCPportnumberwithmulticastgroupIP
addressoraUDP/TCPportnumberfordetection.DefaultUDPportsare1718,1719,1720.
Defaultgroupaddressis224.0.1.41.Thecommandsinthissectioncanbeusedtoconfigure
H.323detectionusingnewparameters.AseconddefaultH.323
detectionexcludesthedefault
groupaddress.

Purpose
Toreview,setthestatusandconfigureCEPphonedetection.
Commands
Note: There is no way to detect if a Siemens, SIP or H.323 phone goes away other than a link
down. Therefore, if these types of phones are not directly connected to the switch’s port and the
phone goes away, the switch will still think there is a phone connection and any configured policy
will remain on the port. Detected CEPs will be removed from the connection table if they do not
send traffic for a period of time equal to the etsysMultiAuthIdleTimeout value. Additionally, CEPs will
be removed if the total duration of their sessions exceeds the time specified by
etsysMultiAuthSessionTimeout.
