Setting Auto-Negotiation and Advertised Ability
Purpose
Toreview,disableorenableauto‐negotiation,andtorevieworsetaport’sadvertisedmodeof
operation.
Duringauto‐negotiationandadvertisedability,theport“tells”thedeviceattheotherendofthe
segmentwhatitscapabilitiesandmodeofoperationare.Ifauto‐negotiationisdisabled,theport
revertstothevaluesspecifiedbydefaultspeed,defaultduplex,andtheportflowcontrol
commands.
Innormaloperation,withallcapabilitiesenabled,advertisedabilityenablesaportto“advertise”
thatithastheabilitytooperateinanymode.Theusermaychoosetoconfigureaportsothat
only
aportionofitscapabilitiesareadvertisedandtheothersaredisabled.

show port negotiation
Usethiscommandtodisplaythestatusofauto‐negotiationforoneormoreports.
Syntax
show port negotiation [port-string]

Defaults
Ifport‐stringisnotspecified,auto‐negotiationstatusforallportswillbedisplayed.
Note: Advertised ability can be activated only on ports that have auto-negotiation enabled.
