Configuring NetFlow set netflow template

Parameters
Defaults
Atleastoneoftherefresh‐rateortimeoutparametersmustbespecified,althoughbothcanbe
specifiedononecommandline.
Mode
Switchcommand,Read‐Write.
Usage
Version9templaterecordshavealimitedlifetimeandmustbeperiodicallyrefreshed.Templates
areretransmittedwheneither:
•Thepacketrefreshrateisreached,or
•Thetemplatetimeoutisreached.
Templaterefreshbasedonthetimeoutperiodisperformedoneveryblade.SinceeachDFEblade
handlesitsownpackettransmissions,template
refreshbasedonnumberofexportpacketssentis
managedbyeachbladeindependently.
TherefreshratedefinesthemaximumdelayaneworrestartedNetFlowcollectorwould
experienceuntilitlearnstheformatofthedatarecordsbeingforwarded(fromthetemplate
referencedbythedatarecords).Refreshratesaffect
NetFlowcollectorsduringtheirstartupwhen
theymustignoreincomingdataflowreportsuntiltherequiredtemplateisreceived.
SettingtheappropriaterefreshrateforyourEnterasysMatrixsystemmustbedetermined,since
thedefaultsettingsofa20packetrefreshrateanda30minutetimeoutmaynot
beoptimalfor
yourenvironment.Forexample,aswitchprocessinganextremelyslowflowrateof,say,20
packetsperhalfhour,wouldrefreshthetemplatesonlyeveryhalfhourusingthedefaultsettings,
whileaswitchsending300flowreportpacketspersecondwouldrefreshthetemplates15times
per
second.
EnterasysrecommendsthatyouconfigureyourEnterasysMatrixsystemsoitdoesnotrefresh
templatesmoreoftenthanoncepersecond.
Usetheshownetflowconfigcommand(“shownetflow”onpage 15‐3)todisplaythecurrently
configuredvalues.
Example
ThisexampleshowshowtosettheVersion9templatepacketrefreshrateto50packets andthe
timeoutvalueto45minutes:
Matrix(rw)->set netflow template refresh-rate 50 timeout 45
refresh‐ratepackets Thenumberofexportpacketssentthatcausesatemplatetobe
retransmittedbyanindividualDFEblade.
The value of packets can range from 1 to 600. The default value is 20
packets.
timeoutminutes Thelengthofthetimeoutperiod,inminutes,afterwhichatemplateis
retransmittedbyallbladesinthesystem.
The value of minutes can range from 1 to 3600. The default value is 30
minutes.
