Usage
IfthevirtualrouterIPaddressisthesameastheinterface(VLAN)addressownedbyaVRRP
router,thentherouterowningtheaddressbecomesthemaster.Themastersendsan
advertisementtoallotherVRRProutersdeclaringitsstatusandassumesresponsibilityfor
forwardingpacketsassociatedwithitsvirtual
routerID(VRID).
IfthevirtualrouterIPaddressisnotownedbyanyoftheVRRProuters,thentherouterscompare
theirprioritiesandthehigherpriorityownerbecomesthemaster.Ifpriorityvaluesarethesame,
thentheVRRProuterwiththehigherIPaddressisselectedmaster.

EachVRRProutinginterfacecansupportupto16virtualrouterIPaddresses.AvirtualrouterIP
addresscanbeeitheranaddressconfiguredontheroutinginterfaceoranaddressthatfallswithin
therangeof
anynetworksconfiguredontheroutinginterface.AllofthevirtualrouterIP
addressesassociatedwithasingleVRIDmustbedesignatedas“owner”or“non‐owner”—amix
of“owner”and“non‐owner”addressesonasingleVRIDisnotallowed.

addressconfiguration.

routeraddress.ThisVLANmustbeconfiguredforIProutingas

vrid SpecifiesauniqueVirtualRouterID(VRID)associatedwiththerouting
interface.
