About Fonts 4-2 Revision D
In addition, WiNFiNiT! interface users can import True-
Type fonts which are then converted into Master Fonts
that can be used by an iNFiNiT! Family system. This
greatly increases the number of Master Fonts available
for Machine Font creation. Please refer to §9.4 in the
WiNFiNiT! Option Handbook (Pub. No. 2A02024) for
more information.
English-based fonts generally contain standard (STD)
upper and lower case letters A through Z, numbers, sym-
bols and punctuation marks. iNFiNiT! Family systems
also contain an international (ITL) character set, because
most non-Roman fonts need additional characters (like
ä
or
ç) for special applications, as well as accent marks.
You will work with the two types of fonts when using the
system: Master Fonts and Machine Fonts.

Every iNFiNiT! Family system is shipped with a mini-
mum of 20 Master Fonts. A Master Font represents only
the wireframe “blueprint” of the characters in the font,
with no definitive screen size, edge style, etc.
Before a font can be used in Message Compose, its Mas-
ter Font outlines must be converted into a Machine Font,
with characteristics you assign, such as scanline height,
edge style and edge size. Conversions may be done
using Flash Font, Font Create Utility, and/or Advanced
Font Create Utility (option).
NOTE
Flash Font (Section 13) can make
instant conversions of Master Fonts
into Machine Fonts. Font Create
Utility (Section 18) can be used to
convert “batches” of Machine Fonts
fonts from Master Fonts.
