The Spell Check utility allows you to correct the spelling
of the words in the current frame buffer. Spell Check is
an on-line operation, available from Message Compose.
Two types of dictionaries are used by the Spell Check
utility. The Main Dictionary contains more than 100,000
English words. This dictionary is compressed to occupy
only 350 K bytes on the disk, and the data is decom-
pressed at run time. The Application Dictionary is “user
defined” and can contain any number of words not found
in the standard dictionary. Both dictionaries are used to
detect misspelled words.
This function is selected as a
CNTL key function. When
CNTL Y is pressed, the Spell Check menu is displayed on
the Prompts Monitor. Text that has been typed on screen
is checked for spelling from the top left corner of the
page. Each word is checked against the dictionaries. If
the word exists in the dictionaries, the next word is
checked. If the word is not found in the dictionaries, a
replacement word and a list of alternative words is pre-
sented and a box is drawn around the misspelled word on
the Edit Monitor. The following choices are available to
the user when a misspelled word is detected:
In addition to these, two options concerning the Applica-
tion dictionary are also provided:
The user can also select
READ, RECORD and DEL MSG
functions. The
ESC key can be used to exit Spell Check
and restore the Edit Monitor screen to the state it was in
before entering Spell Check.
