• Default directories (INFINIT, MAX, MAXINE, or
SYSTEM) cannot be renamed, nor can System Pro-
gram files (Message Compose, Font Create, etc.) or
certain other master files.
• All files have a descriptor. If the descriptor field is
left blank, the default is used. Directories cannot
have descriptors. A descriptor can be changed with-
out changing the name. Similarly, the name can be
changed without changing the descriptor.
• If a file originally had an ID number for a name, the
renamed file must also contain an ID number name.
Any four-digit number can be used; however if less
than four digits are used, the system adds leading
zeros (for example,
25 becomes 0025).
