A Character Placement Table tells the system where each of
the characters in a Machine Font are found on the iNFiNiT!
Family keyboard. When a Master Font is converted into a
Machine Font, you can specify which one of the default
tables (
STD or ITL) are to be used to map the characters
onto the keyboard, or you can create a custom table.
NOTE
Figure 18-11 provides a map of the
keyboard characters and their ID’s,
for all keys available for use in
Character Placement Tables.
You may select the table and enter your choice in the
CHARACTER SET ID: field in the Options window,
accessed from the Options field in the Font Create Setup
window (§18.4.7.3). If you do not select a Character
Placement Table, the system chooses a default table as
follows:
STD (Standard) for NTSC systems
ITL (International) for PAL or PAL-M systems
The default
STD American English Character Placement
Table contains 188 characters, with Key ID numbers
from
4 to 191 inclusive. For example, Character ID 1 is
an upper case A, located at Key Number 65. Character
ID 2 is an upper case B, located at Key Number 66. the
English alphabet continues at ID 3, Key Number 67 -
through the upper case letters, the lower case letters,
numbers, and then symbols.
