NOTE
Font Create does not support the
optional mouse.
Before you compose your first text message in Message
Compose, you must create a Machine Font from a Master
Font. Master Fonts are analogous to the typefaces that
typesetters use for printing. A Master Font, or typeface, is
used to create a Machine Font, which is a group of charac-
ters sharing similar properties such as Font Size, Edge
Type, Edge Size etc. The Font Create Utility allows you
to select which specific characters to convert, and to
assign alternate characters to keys by use of a Character
Placement Table. For example, a logo which has been
converted into a Machine Font character can be placed
under the "
A" keycap. Each Machine Font in the conver-
sion list can have its own Character Placement Table.

Master Font ID, Machine Font ID, Font Size, Edge Style,
Edge Direction, Edge Size, Master Font source disk,
Machine Font directory, a Character Placement Table, and
other parameters for each new Machine Font are entered
in a conversion list, then the conversion is executed. For
added convenience, up to 98 font conversions may be set
up as a “batch job” to run without operator supervision.
There are two methods available for creating Machine
Fonts - Font Create (or Advanced Font Create if the sys-
tem is equipped with that option) and Flash Font, which
also includes Advanced On-Line Convert (Section 13).
1. See §21.8 - RGB Tools Font Utility (F), the Image Tools Manual
(Pub.No. 2A01988), or the Logo Compose Manual (Pub. No. 2A01990)
for information about converting RGB(A) images into Machine Font
characters.
