Matte Tools is used to “cut out” (key) a piece of a video
image, and “fill” it (fill) with video from another source.
this can be accomplished in two ways on the iNFiNiT!
Family system:
Creating a key object in one buffer, and a fill image
in another, then executing a matte. This function can
be executed only on systems equipped with two or
more frame buffers, and is not available from within
IMAGESTOR!
On MAXINE! systems or from within IMAG-
ESTOR!, a message can be specified as a key image,
and another as a fill image. The matte is executed
using the specified messages.
Both methods are covered below.
Matte Tools
is not avail-
able to the Secondary User of an iNFiNiT! system. Addi-
tionally, a matte cannot be executed if there is only one
available frame buffer on a MAX!> or iNFiNiT! system.
When using the Video Input function, it is common to be
working with a signal source which doesn't provide a key
signal. The most common of these sources is a camera.
The lack of a key signal becomes a problem when captur-
ing irregularly-shaped objects that are less than Full
Screen size; for example, a logo or a full Screen head
shot that has been cropped using an oval.
