When FILE CHECK is activated, the system constructs an
internal table of the file name and latest version number
information contained therein, for all programs in the fol-
lowing directories:
• SYSTEM/PROGRAMS
• SYSTEM/ETC
• SYSTEM/HELP
• SYSTEM/DRIVERS
If FILE CHECK detects a mismatch in version number, a
list of offending files is placed on the Prompts Monitor.
If no mismatches are detected, the message:
“Operating
software is up to date”
is displayed.

The user directory contains two major iNFiNiT! Family
file directories:
MACHINE and MESSAGE. All
MACHINE and MESSAGE files and directories can be
renamed, deleted, or copied.
The
MACHINE directory contains Machine Fonts or
logos you’ve created, and Character Placement Tables.
Any character or set of characters that is used to create a
message is stored in a Machine Font file. Each character
also has a set of ID numbers assigned to it during font
conversion (Section 18).
The
MESSAGE directory contains pages you have cre-
ated. These include any selective record messages such
as End of Text, Function Keys or Roll messages. These
files are sorted by their ID numbers (
0000 - 9999).
