Saturation is the amount of white in a color. The higher
the saturation, the less white is present in the color. It is
saturation that distinguishes pink from burgundy. Both
may be considered red, but pink has a higher level of
white, and is therefore less saturated than burgundy.

Saturation can be set from 0 to 255. The value is shown
on the Prompts Monitor. A color with a saturation value
of
0 is technically no longer a color - it is pure white. A
color with a saturation level of
255 contains no white at
all.

Intensity makes a color brighter or darker. A fire-truck
red has a high intensity level, while a burgundy red has a
low intensity level.
As with saturation, intensity is assigned a value from
0 to
255 (Figure 10-5). The value appears on the Prompts
Monitor.
