A baseline is the imaginary line on which the characters
sit. It can be likened to a ruled line on a page of paper.
Figure 7-7 illustrates a baseline.

The baseline can be adjusted to accommodate mixed
fonts on a row or on a page.
When Baseline Adjust is
On, this function keeps the
baseline constant regardless of the differing sizes of the
fonts. If a smaller font is typed first, the baseline then
moves down, taking the smaller characters with it in
order to accommodate the larger font.
• If Baseline Adjust is
On, and the Row Baseline
Adjust is
Off, only the row the cursor is on adjusts.
The rows below the row the cursor is on are unaf-
fected when new, larger characters are typed.
• If Baseline Adjust is
On, and the Row Baseline Adjust
is also
On, the rows below the row the cursor is on
move down to accommodate the larger Font Size.
