Use Verify when disk damage is suspected (for example,
if you get an error prompt indicating a file cannot be read
or written, or the system was shut down while a file was
in use). The verifier searches for faults in the file struc-
ture, and attempts to repair any faults detected.
To start the verification process:
• Press
V or select Verify to display the Disk Verify
window (Figure 19-23).
If you know the location of any bad blocks, enter them in
the
BAD BLOCK LIST. Bad Block numbers are reported
by the Operating System when an unrecoverable error is
detected during a disk read or write operation.
To verify the disk:
[ ] 1. Enter the drive you want to verify in the
DEVICE: field (A, B, C, D, etc.).
If you know of bad blocks, press
TAB to enter the BAD
BLOCKS LIST
. Enter all known bad blocks in the list,
pressing
between each number to enter it in the list.
Press
SHIFT + TAB to leave the list.
[ ] 2. Press
CNTL X or select Execute to start the
verification process.
