Message Compose Basics 6-8 Revision D
Mode: Indicates Locked or Unlocked Mode. In Locked Mode,
text repositioning operations such as
SHIFT CHAR and
SHIFT ROW affect characters or rows following the cur-
sor position. In Unlocked Mode, these operations affect
only the character or row that the cursor is on., i.e.
Unlocked Mode allows the kern adjust (character spac-
ing) to function independently of other elements.
SHIFT
PAGE
operations treat both Locked and Unlocked text as
Locked. The default setting is Locked.
Last Mesg: The message ID most recently read or recorded.
Insert Mode: When Insert Mode is ON, Message Compose automati-
cally shifts all characters right of the current cursor posi-
tion to the right when a new character is typed.
If Word Wrap mode is also ON, and a part of the last
word is shifted past the right edge of the Safe Title Box,
the last word is moved to the beginning of the next row
(Automatic Newline).
If Word Wrap is OFF, characters are shifted past the right
edge of the Safe Title Box. Automatic Newline is not
generated when the right edge of the Safe Title Box is
reached during typing if Insert mode is ON and Word
Wrap is OFF.
When
is pressed while in Insert mode, the text follow-
ing the cursor shifts to the beginning of the next row.
Insert Mode is turned ON and OFF by pressing
CNTL N.
The Status Area in the Message Compose main menu dis-
plays the current status of Insert Mode. The default is OFF.
Word Wrap: When Word Wrap mode is ON, Message Compose auto-
matically moves a word from the end of one row to the
beginning of the next row if any part of that word extends
past the right edge of the Safe Title Box during typing.
Any words shifted off the last row are deleted, i.e. they do
not return to the top of the screen, even though the cursor
does when new characters are typed. Word Wrap mode is
turned ON and OFF by pressing
CNTL W. The Status
Area in the Message Compose main menu displays the
current status of Word Wrap. The default is OFF.
