Revision D 15-29 Advanced Read FX
Active Buffer Selection: Either the Foreground or the
Background of an EEFB can be selected as the active
buffer (§15.8.2). A text message or RGB(A) graphic may
be read into either buffer. However, an RGB(A) graphic
cannot be recorded from the Foreground buffer unless it
has been converted to a Machine Font character.

(You
may also record the graphic from the Foreground buffer
as an RGB(A) message in RGB Tools or an Image Tools
message in Image Tools.)
As Read Effects is executed, the previously inactive
buffer becomes the active buffer.
Dissolve: Dissolves (§15.8.4) from message to mes-
sage may be executed.
Hard Mask: A Hard Mask (§15.8.6) is an adjustable
rectangular area of the screen, much like a picture matte.
Output Percentage levels inside and outside of the Mask
can be adjusted. Experiment with this feature to generate
some interesting effects.
Video Input: Live video input (§15.8.5) can be mixed
under the Foreground and Background buffers in one
EEFB. The video source is connected to the optional Video
Input Module (VIM). The live video is then routed to the
EEFB. See Section 20 for more information on the VIM.
To display the EEFB Read Effects main menu (Figure 15-
11):
Press
