(Figure 9-17) of the current font are both larger than
those in any other fonts you intend to use in the Serial
Crawl.

For example: Suppose the currently selected font in
Message Compose is
100 scanlines with a baseline height
of
80 scanlines. This means there are 80 lines above the
baseline and
20 lines below the baseline.
The second font is not selected. This font is
90 scanlines
with a baseline height of
60 scanlines. That means there
are
60 lines above the baseline and 30 scanlines below
the baseline.
Enter Serial Crawl with the first font selected and the cur-
sor at scanline
300. The Crawl window will occupy
scanlines
300 to 400.

More importantly, the baseline will be at scanline 380.
Now switch to the second font, which is smaller. It
appears at first that this is safe since the font size is
smaller. However, the second font is aligned on the base-
line of the first font. The first font extends
20 lines below
the baseline. But, the second font extends
30 lines below
the baseline. The last 10 lines of the second font over-
flows the Crawl window and the descenders, i.e. the por-
