Revision D 13-11 Flash Font
Figure 13-6. Flash Font Typing Mode
You may create and record messages using Flash Font characters - however,
there are several differences to note:
• Flash Font characters cannot be used in Clock or Timer displays.
• Messages containing Flash Font characters are recorded the same as any
message; however, the font data is stored with the text, and a separate font
file is not created.
• Messages containing on-line (Flash Font) font created characters take
longer to read than messages using preloaded Machine Fonts.
• The Underline function cannot be used in Flash Font Typing mode.
• Normally, Flash Font data is maintained and managed for all active frame
buffers in the system. Although this provides the ability to edit Flash Font or
on-line font data in any frame buffer, a side effect of this data management
is that there are slower recall times during read and Read Next operations.
A complete listing of Flash Font restrictions appears in §13.13.
Flash Font enables you to quickly create a Machine Font based on the on-
line font. Machine Fonts created by the Flash Font utility are just like ordi-
nary Machine Fonts, and may be used without restriction. This procedure
appears below.
