Syslog Server and SNMP Management Station
The types of priority events that are routed to the local volatile log correlate to the types of priority events that are routed
to the Syslog server and SNMP management stations. If a Syslog server or SNMP management station is to be configured
to receive additional event messages above their prescribed system defaults, then the local volatile log must first be
configured to allow these additional priority events as well.
By the same token, if a Syslog server or SNMP management station was previously configured to allow a specific priority
event by means of the local volatile log, then before that event can be inhibited at the local volatile log, it must first be
inhibited for the Syslog server or SNMP management station.
Local Volatile Log Commands
The table below and the paragraphs that follow provide the CLI commands that are used to configure, and manage the
C4/c CMTS local volatile logs.
Table 126. Local Volatile Log Commands
Used to empty the event log and delete all data.
Caution: Emptying the local volatile log of all data could eliminate useful
information, so this command should be performed with judicious
restraint.
Used to turn on the local volatile log (SNMP-accessible log) and set the
maximum number of entries than can be stored. Should the size of the
local log exceed the specified number of entries, new entries will
overwrite the oldest entries.
