Chapter 31: Load Balancing
STANDARD Revision 1.0 C4® CMTS Release 8.3 User Guide
© 2016 ARRIS Enterprises LLC. All Rights Reserved. 923
Time is taken from the C4/c CMTS's internal clock. It does not automatically adjust for calendar changes such as daylight
savings time. To confirm the aging-out setting, use the following command:
show cable load-balance
Following a period of RF issues on a given fiber-node, it is recommended that the failed list be cleared to give the load
balancing software a larger pool of modems from which to choose so that the load balancing software is more effective.
The list can be cleared as needed by support personnel with the command:
clear cable load-balance state
Exclude List Operation
Modems that continually fail to move to less loaded channels when instructed to do so by a load balancing , or those that
should not be moved for other reasons, can be excluded from subsequent load balancing attempts by adding the modem
to the exclude-list.
One way to exclude a modem from load balancing is to add the Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) to the exclude-list.
The following CLI command is an example of how to add an OUI to the load balance exclude list:
configure cable load-balance exclude oui 001596
Other ways to exclude a modem from load balancing include:
Assign CM a load balancing policy (via TLV 43.1) that is either non-existent or its associated rule is disabled.
Assign CM to an RLBG (via TLV 43.3) that has a disabled policy/rule.
Assign CM a load balancing priority (via TLV 43.2) that is greater than 0.
Movable and Non-movable Modems
DCC Movable Checks
Before a modem is moved via DCC, the following cross-checks are performed:
The modem is fully operational.
The modem has a CM config boot file version level DOCSIS 1.1 or higher (i.e., it supports DCC).
