Configuring Channel Bonding Groups
Dynamic Groups
When dynamic bonding is enabled, the E6000 CER will choose subsets of the modem’s Receive Channel Set and assign
those bonding groups to the modem’s downstream service flows. The E6000 uses an algorithm to determine the optimal
bonding groups for the service flows.
Use the following command to enable the C4/c CMTS to dynamically create downstream bonding groups:
configure interface cable-mac 1 cable downstream-bonding-group dynamic enable
Static Groups
If the user prefers to limit downstream flows to certain groups of downstreams, the user can disable dynamic bonding and
instead configure static bonding groups. The E6000 will then only assign these configured bonding groups to the modem’s
downstream service flows, rather than choosing channels from the modem’s entire Receive Channel Set.
Use the following commands to create static downstream bonding groups:
configure interface cable-mac 1 cable downstream-bonding-group 1 cable-downstream 14/0 14/1
14/2
configure interface cable-mac 1 cable downstream-bonding-group 2 cable-downstream 14/0 14/1
14/2 14/3
Note: If load balancing is disabled, then use the following command to enable changing the bonded modem’s primary
downstream via RCC during registration:
configure cable global modify-primary-DS-RCC
Default = enabled
Note: If the modem does not support ECN 690, it may flap if the C4/c CMTS changes the primary downstream in the Reg-
Rsp-MP. The modem should be upgraded to support ECN 690. For more information on this ECN, see CableLabs
specification CM-SP-MULPIv3.0-I09-090121.
To turn off support for load balancing during registration, perform the following two steps:
1. First, disable support for primary downstream change:
